Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin from the upper eyelids, with the primary goal of opening up the eyes. Dr. Lyor HANAN is particularly focused on achieving natural results without altering the expression. His top priority is ensuring that patients still recognize themselves after the procedure. To do this, a thorough examination of your eyelids, eyebrows, and eyes will be conducted during the consultation to determine the exact type of blepharoplasty you need.

What Is Upper Blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin that covers the lashes of the upper eyelids, thus lifting the eyelids and opening up the eyes.

Who Is Upper Blepharoplasty For?

Upper blepharoplasty is intended for patients with excess skin on the upper eyelids that covers the lashes. This excess skin can give the eyes a tired appearance, cause difficulties with makeup application, and sometimes even lead to visual impairment, especially later in the day.

Upper blepharoplasty can be performed from the age of 35-40 years.

The Procedure for Upper Blepharoplasty with Dr. Lyor HANAN

Upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed in the operating room. Most often, it is done under pure local anesthesia or with sedation (an anesthetist administers a sedative through an IV to help the patient relax during the procedure without fully putting them to sleep).

The procedure is minimally painful, with patients typically experiencing only a slight stinging sensation during the local anesthesia. The eye itself is not touched during the procedure.

The procedure involves removing the excess skin on the upper eyelid using a scalpel. The amount of skin to be removed is precisely determined before the surgery by Dr. Lyor HANAN. Using a small clamp, Dr. Lyor HANAN marks the amount of skin to be removed and the exact location of the incisions. Often, excess fat in the inner corner of the eyelid is also addressed during the procedure.

Upper blepharoplasty is a quick procedure, lasting about 30 minutes. It is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can go home the same day.

Before undergoing surgery, you will need to consult with your surgeon to make sure this procedure is suitable for you.

Post-Operative Care for Upper Blepharoplasty

The post-operative course for upper blepharoplasty is generally straightforward. There will be bruising and swelling around the eyes for 7 to 10 days.

There is little to no pain, and any discomfort can be managed with paracetamol.

Patients may experience temporary vision disturbances in the first few days, and a sensation of dry eyes, which can be relieved with ointments and drops prescribed by your surgeon. Most patients can return to work within a few days. The bruises can last up to 15 days. The stitches are non-absorbable and are removed after 7 days by your surgeon. Scars fade quickly over a few weeks and are invisible within 3 months.

Post-operative care is simple: an ointment should be applied to the scars and in the eyes morning and night. Artificial tear drops and saline solution should be applied to the eyes several times a day to prevent dryness.

Post-operative complications are extremely rare but can include bleeding (hematoma), infection of the scar, or reopening of the scar.
