General Information on the Deep Plane Facelift

The image of a facelift is associated with a pulled and artificial look, a “done” appearance. But it is now known that this was largely due to the technique used, which was not the right one. Indeed, traditional techniques involve pulling on the skin to lift it. However, the skin is stretchable and relaxes, it relaxes on the cheeks and remains tight in front of the ear, sometimes even deforming the ear, resulting in an unsightly facial appearance.

The deep plane facelift technique used exclusively by Dr. Lyor Hanan focuses on the deep tissues located under the thin muscle layer of the face. When these tissues are deeply released, the skin and deeper structures can be repositioned in their natural position without exerting significant traction. The result is natural and long-lasting.

Who Can Benefit from a Deep Plane Facelift?

If you have facial contour sagging (jowls), neck sagging, and pronounced nasolabial folds, a deep plane facelift may be indicated.

The minimum age for a deep plane facelift is 40 years. There is no maximum age.

You must be in good health, not smoke, and not have any serious illnesses.

How is a Deep Plane Facelift Performed by Dr. Hanan?

This procedure is performed in the operating room, mostly under general anesthesia, sometimes under local anesthesia with sedation.

The procedure lasts 3 hours, and you will need to stay one night in the clinic for monitoring.

In practice, the surgeon makes an incision with a scalpel around the ears to gently lift the skin by a few centimeters. The surgeon then incises the muscle layer of the face to access the deep plane, where they can perform in-depth work to release all the attachments that may prevent the proper repositioning of the tissues, thus avoiding early tissue relapse.
Sutures are then placed to reposition the tissues correctly, lifting the jowls, nasolabial folds, and neck. The excess skin is removed, and the skin is sutured with very fine threads to improve healing.

A compressive dressing is then applied to prevent postoperative bleeding.

Postoperative Course of a Deep Plane FaceLift

Pain:

They are mild to moderate. You may feel a pulling sensation. The pain is generally manageable with the painkillers prescribed by your surgeon. You can resume your daily activities after a few days.

Swelling and Bruises:

Swelling and bruises may appear after the operation, this is part of the normal postoperative process. The facial appearance is swollen, sometimes significantly, for 10 days. After the tenth day, bruises and swelling will still be present, but you can hide them with makeup.

Scars:

The scars close within 7-10 days; the stitches will be removed by your surgeon at the postoperative control consultation. There is no special care needed for the scars other than drying them after the shower.

The scars fade gradually, and after 3 months, they are almost invisible.

Sport:

You can resume sports activities after 1 month.

Showering:

You can take a shower 48 hours after the procedure, making sure to dry the scars well after washing them with water and soap.

Results After a Deep Plane Facelift

The facial contour is smoothed, with a straight line between the chin and jaw angle, the jowls are lifted, and the neck angle is well defined. The nasolabial fold is less visible, and the wrinkles around the mouth are also smoothed, all without a pulled look.

The final result is appreciated after 6 months, allowing the body to completely absorb the postoperative edema.

The result of a facelift lasts up to 10 years, and no hyaluronic acid injections are needed to maintain the result.

The ultimate goal of a deep plane facelift is to allow you to rediscover yourself as you know yourself. The objective is neither to rejuvenate nor to change your face but to remove the tired, sad appearance.
